Markdown Table Generator
Lining up pipes and dashes by hand is tedious. This Markdown table generator lets you create a Markdown table online in a grid: set rows and columns, type the content, and copy the table syntax into a README, a pull request, documentation, or a wiki page. You can also paste CSV, JSON, or HTML, or upload Excel, and convert it to a Markdown table. Everything runs in your browser.
What the Output Looks Like
| Name | Role | Status |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Alice | Admin | Active |
| Bob | Editor | Invited |
- The first row becomes the header row
- The second line is the delimiter row (
---for each column) - Each cell is separated by
|, with a leading and trailing pipe on every line
This is the pipe table syntax from the GitHub Flavored Markdown spec, which GitHub describes in Organizing information with tables. Tables are an extension: plain CommonMark does not include them, but GitHub, GitLab, and many documentation and static site tools render them.
Common Uses
- Feature, option, or API parameter tables in a README
- Comparison tables in pull requests, issues, and design docs
- Turning spreadsheet or CSV data into a table for a wiki or Markdown-based blog
